So here is to looking back on what Elijah and I have accomplished this year. We came from nothing to something. Starting out the year, we had no clue what we were going to do in this class. We ended up creating a year long project and making it and every year thing. We were so happy to be able to work with the basketball team and coaches this year. We will be forever grateful for what they did for us and how they accepted us as a part of the team. We learned a lot from this project, not just about numbers, but about ourselves in general. It brought Elijah and I closer and it was a great experience. We learned how to make reports and use excel. We learned a whole lot about excel which will help us in our future professions. It was fun working along side him this year.

Over the last week Elijah and I have been working on making, planning, and producing our tutorial videos. It has taken some time because we have to figure out exactly what we want to say in each video. We kind of get some key point down to make sure we don't miss the important things in each video. As we go along, certain things come up that we have to say so we talk about it on the spot. So far they have been a success. We have covered a lot and been very into them. We try to keep them simple but there is so much information to hand out. We try to make them funny as well so they aren't so boring. But so far we are enjoying making them. In the last video we talked of how we watch the games if we can't make one. Many future people won't go to every game like we did, so we figured that might be an important part to the process. We are working on the last few videos, which will basically just be extra stuff they need to know. Little things that are vital to how we ran the program. We are excited for the future of BAM Analytics.
Last week we wrapped up our season reports for the players and Coach Whitaker. He was very appreciative of what we have done this year and that we were so into the games. After all of this, Elijah and came back and started organizing our tutorial videos for future statisticians. We have kind of mapped each video and what we want to cover in each video. There is so much to talk about, so a lot of things will come up as we talk. We split it up so that video one is an introduction to BAM analytics and what we do/how we got started. Then the next few videos will go into detail about everything involved. Overall we are looking at 6-8 videos so we can cover everything. We want them to be able to go back and easily be able to find a certain spot if they forget something. We are excited about the future of what we have started. Elijah and I are going to make these videos as useful and helpful as possible, but we also will make them funny along the way. We are known for our outgoing and funny personalities, so they wouldn't be good if they weren't funny as well.
Well, the season didn't end how we wanted it to, but we exceeded expectations by far. We ended up losing in the sectional championship game, but to even be there was a great experience. Now we are currently working on a season wrap up report for Coach Whitaker and the team. We will be giving the coaches a player by player breakdown of how they did this season. We will also be giving each player a sheet of how they did with other players stats so they can compare and contrast. Hopefully we have some time over spring break to do this. One we are done with this process, we will start our tutorial videos on how to continue this analytics program year by year. We are excited about the future and what this program will bring.
Last weekend, Elijah and I were set on Gizzi's return. We started our lineup sheets over so we could see what our best lineup was with Gizzi in the lineup going into sectionals. We are currently looking at making some type of scouting report for Pendleton this Tuesday night. We are excited for sectionals to start up. The past few weeks, we have had some possible future statisticians shadow us at the games. We are glad that other people want to continue this and work hard at this. Elijah and I are glad we were able to start something special. There is one more regular season game tonight, unfortunately we will miss the game due to some other events that we can't miss. The best thing about this is that we have access to HUDL, which gives us the game film. We are able to watch the game at home or in class. This is very helpful in a lot of situations. We dropped off our weekly report to Coach Whitaker the other day and we hope that it finds value for the game tonight and sectionals next week. We are looking to make a championship run.
This weekend we are getting prepared to take on Shelbyville tonight and Connersville Monday. Maximus Gizzi is set to return sometime next week, so Elijah and I have to come up with a solution to do lineups and find the most efficient way to do so. We are excited for this weekends games and we met with Coach Whitaker this week to go over some strategies. Sectionals are approaching fast and we want to be at our best when that comes around. Tomorrow the girls are in e regional matchup with #1 Pike, so we are in for an exciting weekend with New Palestine hoops.
About a week ago, Coach Whitaker asked if we could do a mid-season report for each player. So we were able to give them one of our reports and a definition sheet to see what the stats say about how they have played this season. Also, Maximus Gizzi (our starting point guard) broke his hand last week. This put a major rush in what we were doing. Elijah and I had to compensate for Gizzi being out by making a new excel sheet without Gizzi and also starting over on the lineups. This will help us find out who plays best together without Maximus on the floor. We are excited for the games this weekend against Roncalli and Franklin Community.
With five games under our belts, Elijah and I have got in a groove. We have gone to each game and taken stats for them. At first, it was hard during the games to take the stats and get each lineup coming in, but one we got in a groove it was over. We haven't looked back since. We travel with the team and have an awesome time. It's a great experience that we enjoy. During the early part of the week, we enter in all of the data collect into our excel sheets. This is one of our favorite parts because we get to see how the team is doing and get to see our strengths and weakness. We then print those reports off and take them to the coaches. We sit down and go over some of the things that stand out so far. We haven't collected a lot of data so far, so it's still hard to tell since the season is so early.
We have a big weekend ahead against New Castle and Franklin Central. We are hoping to help the team in any way we can for them to prepare. Over the past few weeks, Elijah and I have been practicing taking stats from last years games to get ready for this season. We made stat sheets for the season so we can print them out and use them. The stats we took during the two game we watched were transferred to Excel. Andrew McClatchey was kind enough to send us a spreadsheet so we can find out the chemistry of the lineups on the court. We had to do a lot with the spreadsheet though. We have done a lot of preparing for the season so we don't have to worry about it when the game come. We made a formula this week for the spreadsheets, so that when put the stats in for each game, it will add all the stats together into one spreadsheet. It has been a long time coming, but the season is finally among us. We are more excited than ever to get started on this. We want to help the team and Coach Whitaker out in every way we can this year. #BAManalytics
This week Elijah and I spent time watching film from the New Palestine vs Mt. Vernon game last year on hudl to collect play by play stats. We had to keep track of lineups and such so we could calculate chemistry for the team. We are practicing for the season so we can get a system going. Next week we intend to make a spreadsheet for this years games to make it easier to take stats by hand. We can't wait for the season to start!
